Doctoral and Associate Professor graduation ceremonies at BUT celebrated academic achievements and scientific growth

A ceremonial atmosphere filled Brno University of Technology in May. On Wednesday, 20 May, the graduation ceremony for doctoral graduates took place in the Rectorate Hall, followed by the inauguration ceremony for newly appointed associate professors. The event culminated in the presentation of appointment decrees to eleven new associate professors.

During three ceremonial events, the university leadership welcomed new PhD graduates and associate professors, who symbolically confirmed their efforts and completed an important stage of their professional and academic careers by taking the academic oath and receiving their diplomas or appointment decrees. Their achievements are the result of years of research, teaching activities, and countless hours spent in laboratories, workshops, and studios.

The eleven new associate professors, appointed by the Rector of BUT based on nominations submitted by the deans, were introduced during the ceremony by members of the leadership of the respective faculties. The appointees present subsequently received their appointment decrees, officially entitling them to use the title of Associate Professor.

During the ceremony, Rector Ladislav Janíček emphasized above all the quality of education, research and creative activities. “Today, you officially become associate professors – senior academic staff and moral authorities whom students will not only look up to as role models, but from whom they will also expect a great deal. Therefore, do not forget that the primary mission of a university is to educate. It is in our students that the successors on whom our future will depend are growing, and the quality of their education will determine the competitiveness and prosperity of our country,” he said.

From Research to Academic Recognition

At the ceremonial graduation event, 53 new PhD graduates took the doctoral oath. They completed their studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Business and Management, and the CEITEC BUT research centre.

“Doctoral studies are primarily focused on independent scientific research activities. That is both their beauty and their challenge. Therefore, dear graduates, I wish that after today you will not remain alone. I also wish that you never lose your curiosity, joy in your work, joy in discovery, as well as your kindness in interpersonal relationships and dedication to your cause,” said Vítězslav Máša, Vice-Rector for Education and Quality, in his speech.
