IHSS & IWA 2026 Conference Brings Experts from Around the World to Brno

From 23 to 28 August 2026, Brno welcomed scientists and experts from around the world for the joint 23rd Meeting of the International Humic Substances Society (IHSS) and 9th IWA Specialist Conference on Natural Organic Matter (NOM). Organised by the Faculty of Chemistry at Brno University of Technology, the conference focused on the latest research into humic substances and natural organic matter, with the scientific programme taking place at the OREA Congress Hotel Brno.

More than 200 participants attended the conference, which featured a packed scientific programme. Over the course of the week, nearly 100 talks were delivered alongside 60 poster presentations. Excursions and social events complemented the scientific sessions, creating further opportunities for informal discussions, networking and the exchange of ideas.

The truly international character of the conference was one of its defining features. Scientists and experts from the Czech Republic, the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, Brazil, China and many other countries came together in Brno. Beyond presenting the latest research findings, the conference provided an important platform for sharing expertise, building new connections and strengthening international collaboration.

The success of an event of this scale would not have been possible without the dedication of the entire organising team. Special thanks go to SOLEN for their professional support and seamless coordination throughout the conference. Staff and doctoral students from the Faculty of Chemistry at Brno University of Technology formed a significant part of the organising team and contributed to both the preparations and the smooth running of the entire conference week. Colleagues from Mendel University in Brno also played an important role in the organisation.
