Original Abstract

Synthetic polymers are widely used due to their excellent properties which can be "tailored" with respect to their planned use. The total amount of synthetic polymers is constantly increasing. At the end of their life cycle great part of the polymer containing products is disposed on the waste dumps, where they remain usually for quite a long time. To solve this problem biodegradable polymers are proposed and synthesized. It is necessary to evaluate the possible environmental effects of their degradation products.
