Originální abstrakt
This study evaluates the impact of the co-application of sewage sludge and biochar on the soil ecosystem. Biochar was selected for its potential to mitigate the adverse effects of sludge. The experiment used both artificial and real soils as model environments, and the impact on primary producers was assessed using Avena sativa. Soil quality and microbial dynamics were monitored through potential dehydrogenase activity. The results indicate that high sludge concentrations (e.g., 10% w/w) can have an inhibitory effect on A. sativa, reducing biomass production and root length. Conversely, these high concentrations stimulated enzymatic activity in the soil environment. The co-application of biochar yielded contrasting effects depending on the soil type: in artificial soil, biochar acted primarily as a nutrient immobilizer, whereas in real soil, it served as a habitat that promoted microbial activity. These findings highlight the critical role of soil type in determining the efficacy of biochar as a soil amendment in sludge-treated ecosystems.
