Teaching at IFSB
Study advisor: Iva Buchtíková
The study at ICHPBT is generally aimed at acquiring active knowledge and skills needed in the control and management of modern food, biotechnological, pharmaceutical and chemical production.
Students are also intensively prepared to work in food, biotechnology, genetic, biochemical, microbiological and chemical laboratories.
The Bachelor of Science in Food Chemistry and Technology is offered in three specializations. These specialisations differ in the composition of some of the compulsory electives and therefore in the content of approximately one quarter of the national examination. The first year of all specializations has a common content, and during the summer semester of the first year you will then choose one of the offered specializations that interests you the most and best suits your future planned employment.
The institute is also involved in providing some of the specialised courses and final theses for students of the Bachelor's programme Chemistry for Medical Applications. The follow-up Master's degree programme Chemistry of Natural Substances is directly related to and extends all three specialisations of the degree programme Chemistry and Food Technology. The doctoral studies are oriented both in the field of food production with regard to the provision and development of progressive technologies, and in the field of quality control and health safety of produced foods, as well as in the areas of biotechnology and the production of important metabolites using microorganisms.
Within the framework of educational and pedagogical activities, the Institute provides some faculty-wide courses in the field of biology or biochemistry. For all undergraduate majors, the Institute provides teaching of General Biology, Fundamentals of Physiology, Biochemistry I, Practical Biochemistry, Microbiology, Practical Microbiology, Cosmetology, Gene Technology, Molecular Biology, Bioethics and other multidisciplinary subjects. For selected follow-up programmes, the ICHPBT provides teaching of multidisciplinary subjects such as Biochemistry II, Bioengineering, Biotechnology of Natural Substances and some practical subjects.
In the areas of specialized teaching, the Institute provides specialized courses at all levels of study devoted to food technology, microbial biotechnology, molecular biotechnology including specialized work with GMOs, nanotechnology, biopolymer technology or the study of natural substances. Furthermore, the institute specializes in bioanalytical methods, laboratory diagnostic methods and practical teaching of clinical methods. The focus on cosmetology and cosmetic technology is also significant, including teaching methods of interaction of natural substances, cosmetic ingredients, foods and food supplements with living organisms and cell cultures. These courses are intended for students of the Chemistry and Food Technology programme, in addition to students of the Chemistry of Natural Substances and Chemistry for Medical Applications programmes.
