The chemistry show set Kraví hora ablaze at the Festival of Planets 2025

On warm summer evenings during the first week of August, the Brno Observatory turned into an open-air laboratory. At the popular Festival of Planets, our chemists, led by Tomáš Opravil, embarked on a daring space mission – and brought back a spectacle that drew crowds of science fans, both young and old.

Author: Petr Ryp
Under the giant models of planets, chemistry came to life in full glory: dazzling colours, dense smoke, loud explosions, and mysterious mists. Whether you stood in the front row or just peeked from afar, it was clear that chemistry has its place among the stars!

Festival Record – Hrnečku, vař! 💥
On Friday evening, 8 August, the grand finale took place. Exactly at 18:00, we launched the domino chemical experiment – and what’s more, it was carried out entirely by brave volunteers from the audience, with no prior rehearsal! Even supernovas would envy us the energy and enthusiasm.

Many thanks to everyone who came, cheered, and became part of this stellar show!

And if you missed us at Kraví hora, don’t worry. Soon our chemistry show will return – this time at the Festival of Science 2025, taking place from 5–7 September at the Brno Exhibition Centre. You can look forward to popular and brand-new experiments, plenty of sparkling atmosphere, and one old, trusted rule: “If we start running, you run too!”
