Original Abstract

This paper presents possibilities of maintenance optimization in smart grids to enhance system resilience. First, methods for calculating unavailability of interconnected is introduced. Different modes of operation for individual system components, which may be either restored upon randomly occurring failure, or maintained using preventive actions are considered. Mathematical models for computing time dependent unavailability for both cases are presented. Subsequently, an optimization task is constructed to minimize both the system operations costs and its average unavailability for a selected mission time using multi-objective optimization methods. The entire issue is explained on a simplified model of smart grid based on real critical infrastructure. Presented results prove that efficient implementation of mathematical models of system operations can enable resolution of complex optimization problems in reasonable time.
