Original Abstract

Carotenogenic yeasts are a diverse group of unrelated organisms (mostly Basidiomycota) that can be found in soil, fresh and marine water, on plants, commonly associated with animals and man-made habitant. In this work the PCR - denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) method was optimized for characterisation of red yeast strains. For this usage, inter-specific variables of strongly conserved sequences of genomic DNA, especially ITS1 and 5.8-ITS2 rDNA regions were amplified. At all, nine of carotenogenic yeast strains of the genus Rhodotorula, Sporobolomyces, Cystofilobasidium and Phaffia were analyzed.
