The aim of the course is to practise grammatical features typical in technical translations and scientific texts, supported by expanding specialised technical vocabulary skills.

Aims
The course focuses on advanced grammar and vocabulary and its practical usage at the B2-C1 CEFR level, specialising in electrical engineering and information technology texts.
Students will expand their technical vocabulary skills and they will be able to understand the differences in meaning of technical terms based on the context and to use them correctly. Students will learn to understand formal and stylistic nuances of various technical texts. They will also be able to produce and organise ideas in a coherent technical style. They will polish their knowledge of grammar and they will be able to apply it to various technical texts.

Syllabus
- Automated design, focus on vocabulary, verbs of cause and effect, practise based on individual´s field of study
- Automated design, training pronunciation, video: how a microwave oven works, focus on verbs of movement, differences in meaning
- Students´ small presentations explaining how things work, feedback, focus on presentation skills
- Verbs of cause and effect, conjunctions, rephrasing
- Nominalisation rephrasing, video" How self-driving cars see?", group work based on students´ field of study, presentation of the group task
- Electronic measurement: reading comprehension tasks, vocabulary pronunciation practice, video: "What if satellites stopped working", pair work task: develop similar catastrophic scenarios
- Optoelectronics: reading comprehension tasks, expressing purpose, vocabulary building
- Optoelectronics: text lead-in, Task: describe an instrument, its components and parameters, its use, potential hazards and how to prevent them
- Audio coding: reading comprehension + vocabulary, not only…but also, inversion
- Inversion: practice, video: Siri, Alexa, what comes next..., discussion
