Summer school WATER (from 26 August to 6 September 2024)

From 26 August to 6 September 2024, the Faculty of Chemistry BUT in cooperation with the BUT rectorate will be hosting a summer school in the frame of the Erasmus+ blended intensive programmes.

The topic of the school is “WATER”. Students will have the opportunity to gain new knowledge in the areas of hydrobiology, microbiology of water, hydrochemistry, water technology, ecotoxicology, and analytical chemistry with a focus on new trends in wastewater treatment, water recycling, water sustainability, water resources, pollutants in water and microorganisms as indicators of the water quality.

The summer school is divided into two parts, the first will be held online (26–30 August); the second will take place on the premises of the Faculty of Chemistry. The participants are students from Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Finland and Lithuania. The lecturers are both members of the FCH academic staff and experts from industry or research.

In addition to interesting lectures, students can look forward to excursions, a visit to a wastewater treatment plant in Bílovice or a neutralization station directly at the faculty, laboratories of water technology, and a tour of uniquely preserved water tanks in Brno. They will also try to sample water at the Brno Reservoir.

Students will work on group projects on a selected topic under the guidance of the summer school lecturers. The projects will be presented at the very end of the programme. They will also present their home universities and their studies.

In the second week, the students will participate in the scientific programme of the young water professionals conference “Young Waters Run Deep” co-organized by the Faculty of Chemistry.
