Chemistry for a Sustainable Future: Dr. Dogukan Apaydin Inspired Students with His Lecture

On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, an inspiring lecture by Dr. Dogukan Hazar Apaydin titled "A Chemist’s Toolbox for a More Sustainable Future" took place in classroom P16, organized through international collaboration within the Aktion 98p15 project.

The materials chemistry expert from the partner institution, Vienna University of Technology, introduced innovative approaches on how modern materials, photo- and electrocatalysis can help reduce our carbon footprint and convert pollutants, such as CO2, into value-added products.

Dr. Apaydin captivated the audience with practical examples from his work, where he uses both natural and synthetic materials to achieve more sustainable resource utilization. He also showcased revolutionary possibilities for how chemistry can contribute to combating climate change, opening new perspectives for the application of science in environmental protection.

Dr. Apaydin, a graduate of Middle East Technical University in Turkey and holder of a PhD from Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria, has gained extensive experience from prestigious research institutions, including research visits to Yamagata University in Japan and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories in the USA. His research focuses on photoelectrocatalysis, CO2 utilization, and the development of hybrid organic-inorganic materials.
