Chemists on the run at Vokolo Priglu
On Saturday, October 11, runners once again gathered around the Brno Reservoir for Vokolo Priglu – a popular 14-kilometer race that attracts hundreds of participants of all ages and performance levels every year. The event also included the so-called academic wave, a running competition among Brno’s universities.
Brno University of Technology was represented at the starting line by 47 students and staff members, including our very own chemists, who certainly made a strong showing. The Faculty of Chemistry was represented by Honza Pernica from OSRK, PhD students Honza Vespalec and Nicole Černeková, as well as Vice-Rector Martin Weiter.
The course was about 85% asphalt, with the rest made up of paths and trails around the reservoir. The fastest runners finished in just under 50 minutes. Among our participants, Honza Pernica achieved the best result (13th place among BUT runners, time 1:06:59), followed by Honza Vespalec (23rd place, 1:11:52). Martin Weiter (1:16:37) and Nicole Černeková (1:24:44) also delivered very solid performances.
In the inter-university competition, BUT went up against Masaryk University and the University of Defence. The ten best times from each university counted towards the final results. This year, BUT finished in third place, only slightly behind the University of Defence. There’s no lack of motivation for next year’s race – and perhaps with even more chemists joining the line-up!
