New Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry: Professor Stanislav Obruča

At its regular meeting on 11 November 2025, the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Chemistry, Brno University of Technology, elected Prof. Ing. Stanislav Obruča, Ph.D., as the candidate for the position of Dean for the term from February 2026 to January 2030. In his election programme, he presented a vision of a modern, dynamic, and respected faculty built on the pillars of high-quality education, ethical integrity, open communication, and an international outlook.

Profesor Stanislav Obruča byl zvolen kandidátem na funkci děkana FCH VUT pro období 2026-2030
Professor Obruča works at the Institute of Food Chemistry and Biotechnology of the Faculty of Chemistry, Brno University of Technology, where he has been engaged in long-term research on biopolymers and sustainable biotechnologies. He is the author of more than 85 publications in international journals and a co-author of several patents. In addition to his scientific and teaching activities, he has also been actively involved in popularizing chemistry.

In his programme, he presents a vision of the faculty as a modern research institution with a “family-like character” that is also able to respond flexibly to new challenges. The key concept of his approach is “directed and accelerated evolution” – development based on open communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement of internal processes.

His main priorities include:
  • Modernizing study programmes to reflect the current needs of students and employers, reduce study failure rates, and improve the balance between teaching and research.
  • Ensuring sustainable and high-quality doctoral studies with transparent funding and stronger links to research teams and practical applications.
  • Advancing science and research through a motivating system of evaluation and support, strengthening and modernizing the structure of the Materials Research Centre, and increasing participation in international projects.
  • Strengthening the faculty’s third mission – active communication with the public, popularization of chemistry, and fostering a vibrant community life among students and staff.
Ve svém volebním programu profesor Obruča představil vizi moderní, dynamické a respektované fakulty
According to his vision, the Faculty of Chemistry should continue to grow in the coming years, strengthening its position in science and research, increasing both the quality and scope of its publications and project activities, and becoming a recognized centre of expertise in technical chemistry in the Czech Republic.

“I believe that the Faculty of Chemistry can grow naturally – through evolution based on trust, close cooperation, and mutual respect. I want it to be not only a place of high-quality education and top-level research, but also a vibrant community of people who inspire each other, collaborate, and together move the faculty and the field of chemistry forward,” said Professor Stanislav Obruča.
