The Night of Scientists at FCH offered a wealth of experiences and discoveries

Friday evening, 26 September 2025, belonged to science, curiosity, and exploration. The Faculty of Chemistry once again opened its doors as part of the nationwide event The Night of Scientists, this year themed around “Wealth”. Visitors of all ages filled the faculty’s halls and enjoyed a diverse program full of experiments, games, and hands-on activities.

During Friday evening, hundreds of visitors passed through the Faculty of Chemistry to see for themselves that chemistry is far more than formulas and equations. This year, we prepared a truly rich program – from the popular chemical show and interactive stands to guided lab tours and an adventurous treasure hunt for children titled The Chemical Code of Wealth.

At each station, visitors could literally explore the world of chemical wealth. In the Plasma Processes Laboratory, they learned how plasma contributes to protecting human health, while the organic chemistry section revealed the diversity of molecules that form the true “molecular wealth” around us. A microscope offered a glimpse into the world of chips and materials that underpin modern technology, and at the water stand, visitors could try an interactive game and quiz about water footprints and recycling.

They discovered that waste recycling can be a path toward a wealthier future, and in the photochemistry lab, they explored the principle of light-activated self-disinfecting films that help improve everyday hygiene. Popular hands-on experiments were also part of the event – making slime, turning copper into “gold”, or uncovering the secrets of colloidal chemistry under UV light. Those curious about healthy science could even mix their own probiotic drink and find out how much “wealth for health” lies hidden in microscopic organisms.

The traditional Chemical Show was not to be missed either, attracting crowds of both young and adult spectators despite the rainy weather.

We would like to thank all visitors who came to explore the wealth of chemistry with us!

Our thanks also go to all employees and students who participated in the preparation and organization of the event, guided visitors through the laboratories, and presented the wealth of the scientific world of the Faculty of Chemistry with expertise and enthusiasm. Thank you!
