Universities in the Czech Republic closed for students

New measures are in effect from Monday, 12 October to Sunday, 25 October.

With regard to the worsening epidemiological situation, the Government of the Czech Republic has adopted a resolution restricting the operation of universities with effect from 12 October 2020 to 25 October 2020 and prohibiting the personal participation of students in classes. This cancels the existing exception of laboratory, artistic or experimental work (in small groups), individual visits to libraries and study rooms, individual consultations, etc. The only exception is granted to students of medicine.

Overview of newly adopted measures
:
  • From midnight on 9 October, there is a ban on the operation and use of indoor sports grounds, swimming pools and wellness facilities, as well as on visits and tours to zoos.
  • There will be further restrictions on restaurants, bars and similar catering facilities, with the exception of dispensing windows, which will have to close at 20:00, with no more than four people being allowed at a table at a time.
  • It will be possible to enter shopping centres and other establishments in groups of a maximum of two people.
  • For two weeks, starting on 12 October, all cultural, sporting and social events, religious services, dance or club events (this also applies to cinemas or theatres) are cancelled if they bring together more than ten people indoors or twenty people outdoors.
We recommend all students to follow the BUT website, as well as:

  • Special website of the Ministry of Health of Czech Republic
  • Information for foreign nationals of the Ministry of Interior
  • Website of the Czech government (Measures adopted by the Czech Government against coronavirus)
