Original Abstract

Coupling between heat and mass transfer and reaction processes is analyzed and approaches of irreversible and rational thermodynamics are compared. Affinity as the driving force for a chemical reaction and a quantity determining its rate is discussed. Clear mathematical statements should be preferred instead of ad hoc hypotheses.
