Original Abstract
Sulphonamides are widely used antibiotics in human and veterinary medicine. These compounds have been shown to block biological processes in wastewater treatment plants. Furthermore, bacterial resistence against them has been proven to establish easily. The focus of this research was to developed separation and identification technique for sulphonamides in wastewater. Sulphonamides were concentrated by l/l extraction using ethyl acetate. The HPLC column ZORBAX Eclipse XDB-C18 (150mm x 4.6mm) was used and elution was carried out using gradient mode. As mobile phase was used acetonitrile and 0,1% formic acid in purified water. Sulphonamides were detected using UV absorbance at 270 nm. Average recovery obtained for sulfonamides was 84.1 6.8 %. Limit of quatification (LOQ) for sulfathiazol was 0.5 ng.ml-1 and limit of detection was 0.2 ng.ml-1. The optimized method was used for real samples collected from wastewater treatment plant in University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences Brno campus.
