Invitation to habilitation lectures

We invite you two expert lectures held as part of the habilitation process. Radek Přikryl will present a lecture “3D printing of polymeric and composite materials as a modern tool beyond prototyping” on 6 May at 9:00 in lecture room P4. Ondřej Zvěřina will deliver a lecture “Contamination of the Antarctic ecosystem by toxic elements” on 7 May at 14:00 in the lecture room P16. All students and staff of the Faculty of Chemistry are welcome.

3D printing of polymeric and composite materials as a modern tool beyond prototyping

When: May 6, 2025, 9:00–10:00
Where: Lecture Hall P4

Speaker: Mgr. Radek Přikryl, Ph.D., Faculty of Chemistry, Brno University of Technology

Abstract:
This lecture, part of the bachelor course Additive Technologies, will present current possibilities and trends in the use of FDM 3D printing of particulate and fibrous composite materials. The lecturer will focus on the specific features of the 3D printing process in comparison to conventional non-reinforced plastics. The lecture will showcase research results that connect materials engineering, technological development, and modern material processing techniques. The presentation will also include selected findings from the optimization of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)-based (PHB) composites, aimed at applications in the field of medicine.

Contamination of the Antarctic ecosystem by toxic elements

When: May 7, 2025, 14:00–15:00, as part of the course Environmental Analysis in Practice
Where: Lecture Hall P16

Speaker: RNDr. Ondřej Zvěřina, Ph.D., Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University

Abstract:
The lecture will provide insights into the spread and impact of toxic metals in one of the most sensitive natural environments on Earth and will present original research results obtained during the speaker’s polar expeditions. The lecture will also highlight the application of a modern analytical technique – high-resolution continuum source atomic absorption spectrometry (HR-CS AAS) – which enabled the detection of very low concentrations of elements in complex matrices of Antarctic flora and other environmental samples. All bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students, as well as all employees of the Faculty of Chemistry, are warmly invited to attend.
