Graphene and 2D Nanoelectronics
The lecture will address current research topics in the “Graphene and 2D Nanoelectronics” group at the Department of Physical Engineering, BUT. Specifically, we will focus on three main topics:
(1) electronic transport in graphene and Kelvin probe microscopy (KPFM),
(2) graphene-based biosensors, and
(3) graphene ultraviolet detectors.
In the first part, we will aim to measure basic transport properties on a Hall bar in a field-effect transistor (FET) configuration and how these measurements can be supplemented with simultaneous KPFM measurements (Fig 1). The second part will be devoted to graphene non-specific and specific biosensors using single and double gates to detect DNA fragments, urea, and glucose. The last part will then be devoted to modifying graphene properties using gallium and gallium nitride to produce graphene UV detectors. Individual passages will be interspersed with pedagogical inserts explaining the necessary quantum-mechanical and electronic peculiarities of graphene and other 2D materials.
