Participation in the symposium in Lisbon

From October 1–3, 2025, the 12th edition of the international conference European Symposium on Biopolymers (ESBP 2025) took place in Lisbon, Portugal. The event brought together researchers, experts, and industry representatives from around the world who focus on modern approaches to the biosynthesis, characterization, and applications of biopolymers, as well as on the development of sustainable material technologies.

The discussions primarily addressed topics such as microbial production of biopolymers, genetic engineering of producers, optimization of fermentation processes, biodegradation, and the use of waste materials for sustainable production.

Among the invited speakers was Prof. Stanislav Obruča, Ph.D., who presented thermophilic bacteria as promising producers of biopolymers with unique properties.

A total of fourteen representatives from Brno University of Technology (BUT) actively participated in the conference program through oral and poster presentations — eight from the Faculty of Chemistry, Institute of Food Chemistry and Biotechnology (ÚCHPBT), three from the Institute of Physical Chemistry (ÚFSCH), and three from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication (FEKT).

In addition to the scientific sessions, participants enjoyed a rich social program featuring local cuisine tastings and traditional live music.

The conference provided attendees with new scientific and practical insights, opportunities to establish and strengthen professional contacts, and the chance to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of sunny Lisbon.
