Invitation to the lecture: New perspectives in molecular electronics: surface synthesis and scanning probe microscopy

Lecture doc. Ing. Pavel Jelínek, Ph.D. from the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences will be held on Monday 26 February 2024 at 12:00 pm in the P8 lecture hall

The lecture will introduce the basic principles of scanning electron microscopy including chemical resolution of individual molecules. We will give examples of the synthesis of molecular structures, and their characterization, that are not accessible by traditional chemical synthesis methods in solution. In particular, the synthesis of polymers on surfaces under ultrahigh vacuum allows us to study not only the structural changes of individual polymers (so-called pi-conjugation), but also the charge transport by just one polymer. Given sufficient time, we will demonstrate the controlled transfer of a single electron between redox states within a single molecule and measure the corresponding quantum dissipation.
