BUT improved its position in THE Rankings

Brno University of Technology (BUT) is placed 1001st to 1200th in the latest edition of The Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Compared to last year, when it was between 1,201st and 1,500th, this is a significant shift. The University has made the biggest year-on-year jump in the area of cooperation with industry, where it has the best ranking of all Czech universities.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is a ranking of universities published by the UK's Times Higher Education magazine. This year, a total of 1904 universities from 108 countries entered the rankings. Despite the increase in the number of ranked universities, the BUT has improved its global ranking - from last year's 1201st to 1500th place, it has moved up to 1001st to 1200th place and among Czech universities it has moved up from eleventh to sixth place.

Brno University of Technology moved up in the ranking thanks to higher scores achieved in the evaluation of citations, internationalisation and especially in the area of cooperation with industry, where it took first place among Czech universities.

"Our improved ranking in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings shows that in managing a school it is necessary, among other things, to actively monitor international trends in higher education, pay attention to the evaluated parameters and strive to improve them along with consistent presentation of related data. This has been reflected in other prestigious rankings such as ARWU or QS, where we have also significantly improved our position. I would like to thank all the academic and research staff, students and partners who contributed to these results," commented the Rector of the BUT Ladislav Janíček on the evaluation.

"Special thanks go to our industrial partners and partners from the application sphere, with whom we have recently opened a qualitatively new chapter of mutually beneficial cooperation not only as employers of our graduates and students or as partners in research and knowledge transfer, but also in studies, where we are working on the concept of industrial doctorates within doctoral studies," added the Rector.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, first published independently in 2010, are one of the three most important global university rankings. It evaluates universities on criteria including scientific, research and development potential, quality of education, the international dimension of the institution and the transfer of knowledge to industry. The rankings are based on data from the international bibliographic database Scopus, information collected from institutions and research organisations, as well as surveys conducted in the international academic community.
