Research Internship of Matteo Martina at FCH BUT

Matteo Renato Martina, a PhD student from the group of Professor G. M. Farinola at the University of Bari Aldo Moro in Italy, has joined the Faculty of Chemistry at Brno University of Technology (FCH BUT) for a research internship.

During his six-month stay in Brno, Matteo will collaborate with our scientists on the synthesis of bioinspired materials and other projects in the field of materials chemistry.

Matteo Martina obtained his Master's degree with honors in Chemical Sciences from the University of Bari in 2022 under the supervision of Prof. Farinola. His thesis focused on an advanced synthetic method of direct arylation of o-tolualdehyde at C sp3–H bonds using directing groups and infrared radiation. Currently, his research is oriented towards innovative approaches in the preparation of materials designed for capturing emerging pollutants.

Matteo’s stay represents another significant step in the ongoing collaboration between FCH BUT and the University of Bari, initiated by Prof. Krajčovič’s stay in Bari. The collaboration has evolved over the years through a series of short-term visits by Italian researchers, including Dr. Davide Blasi and Dr. Danilo Vona, as well as participation in international workshops focused on functional organic materials for a sustainable future. These workshops have provided a platform for networking, presenting cutting-edge research findings, and strengthening collaborations among leading research groups across Europe.

Further details about our collaboration with the University of Bari can be found in earlier news articles:
