On the project

An increase in microplastics concentration in natural systems raised an effort to replace conventional plastics with biodegradable plastics. Paradoxically, their use causes the rapid formation of micro-bioplastics because soil conditions often lead to biofragmentation than biodegradation. This problem was overlooked, and relevant studies are missing. Here, we propose a series of experiments to clarify the effect of poly-3-hydroxybutyrate particles on soil biota and properties. The results will be compared with the conventional PET microplastics.
