On the project

There is a huge societal and industrial need for valorizing agricultural and food industry byproducts in a sustainable way for producing high-value products and to minimize carbon emissions. This project will utilize the versatile metabolism of both oleaginous fungi and microalgae to develop unique value chain combining food waste utilization by heterotrophic red yeasts and consumption of emerging CO2 by autotrophic microalgae growing in co-culture.
