Hydrochemistry

Physical properties of pure water and water solutions, water solubilty of liquids, solids and gases, conductivity, organoleptic properties of water, chemical equilibria, adsorption, natural water composition and impurities. Groundwater, surface water, mineral water, seawater, drinking water, wastewater, sludges and sediments.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
1st Students will be capable of application concepts in the field of hydrochemistry;
2nd Students will gain knowledge of chemistry of low concentrated aqueous solutions;
3rd Students gain knowledge which is essential for the understanding of all the basic processes that take place in natural waters (oxidation, reduction, sorption, pH changes as a result of changes in carbonate balance, etc.);
4th Students gain knowledge which is necessary prerequisite for the application in scientific and in technical practice;
5th Students will understand the problems of mutual interactions of different components of the aquatic environment.

Aims
- to familiarize students with physical and chemical properties and composition of natural waters
- to familiarize students with the processes of chemical kinetics and chemical equilibria in natural waters
- to give students a foundation of knowledge needed to apply in practice
- to establish the theoretical basis for successful passing of courses focused on the issues of chemistry and technology of water in the master study.
