On-Site Session of the BIP Programme in Porto
From April 7 to 12, the city of Porto played host to the on-site portion of the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), organized by ISEP – the School of Engineering at the Polytechnic of Porto. This year marked the first time that the Faculty of Chemistry at Brno University of Technology (BUT) took part in the initiative. Representing the Department of Food Chemistry and Biotechnology were Assoc. Prof. Ing. Pavel Diviš, Ph.D., and Ing. Jaromír Pořízka, Ph.D., who introduced their project titled Circular Economy Solutions for the Food Industry.
Alongside the host institution and BUT, the programme also included contributions from Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology, and Universidad de Vigo. Building on previous online lectures, the week-long in-person session in Porto focused on current topics in circular economy and environmental sustainability. The packed agenda offered participants a unique opportunity to blend theory with practice through team projects and hands-on activities.
Expert-led lectures from across European universities provided fresh insights into cutting-edge technologies in food waste valorization, recycling, and environmental engineering. Beyond the academic content, participants also enjoyed a rich cultural programme, including a visit to the biotech company KOD Bio, a guided tour of Porto’s historic center, and a shared dinner celebrating international collaboration. For both students and faculty members, the BIP experience proved to be an exceptional opportunity — expanding knowledge, forging new professional connections, and creating unforgettable memories.
