Doctoral Student from the Faculty of Chemistry Succeeds in the Czech Brains Award

Michaela Dobrovolná from the Institute of Food Science and Biotechnology, Faculty of Chemistry at Brno University of Technology has received the prestigious Lorem Award in the Czech Brains Award for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of healthcare. She was recognized for her research on G-quadruplexes, unusual DNA structures that may offer new insights into the treatment of cancer, viral infections, and other serious diseases. Her research is conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Biophysics of the Czech Academy of Sciences under the supervision of Professor Václav Brázda.

Michaela has completed several international research internships and is the first author of four publications in leading scientific journals. She now aims to focus on the role of G-quadruplexes in mitochondrial DNA and their potential connection to neurodegenerative diseases. Congratulations on this well-deserved success!
