Course detail

Organic Chemistry I

FCH-BA_OCH1Acad. year: 2023/2024

The subject provides knowledge of basic organic chemistry from the point of view of the mechanism of organic reactions, basic physico-chemical properties of selected types of organic compounds, and the student will learn the basic pillars of organic chemistry and organic synthesis. It also covers basic concepts such as substitution effects, thermodynamics and kinetics of organic reactions. IUPAC nomenclature system. The subject is divided into several chapters.

Knowledge of the General and Inorganic Chemistry I course contents and the passed examination from this subject.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Completing the tutorial of Organic Chemistry, which is accompanying the lectures, requires passing 4 written tests. Those who receive a average of 50% of points earn a credit automatically. Alternatively, students are obliged to pass another test at the end of term with gain at least 50%.
The examination consists from written test. For the successful pass of exam is min. level 50% of points.

Completing the tutorial of Organic chemistry requires the attendance and successfully passed class exams. The final examination is written test.

Aims

The aim of the course is orientation in the basic knowledge for the understanding of structure and reactivity of organic compounds. The IUPAC nomenclature and base knowledge of organic compounds stereochemistry are the necessary prerequisites of the whole course. The course continues with the chemistry of individual types of hydrocarbon skeletons (alkanes and cycloalcanes, alkenes, alkadienes, alkynes and aromatic hydrocarbons), compiles and compares their properties.

Completing the course of Organic Chemistry I students acquire basic knowledge of reactivity and stereochemistry of individual hydrocarbons from alkanes to aromatic compounds. The knowledge acquired is a base for completing the laboratory practice in organic chemistry.
