Doctoral student Michaela Dobrovolná from the Institute of Food Chemistry and Biotechnology has received the Lorem Award in the prestigious Czech Head competition for her research on G-quadruplexes – unusual DNA structures that play a key role in understanding the mechanisms of cancer and other diseases.

She conducts her research under the supervision of Prof. Václav Brázda, in collaboration with the Institute of Biophysics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The award represents an important recognition of her scientific work and of the research excellence at the Faculty of Chemistry, Brno University of Technology.

The Rector's Prizes were awarded during the Academic Assembly for the 125th anniversary of the BUT. The Rector's Prize for a publication with an extraordinary impact on the scientific community was awarded to the author team of prof. Ing. Adriána Kovalčík, Ph.D, prof. RNDr. Ivana Márová, CSc. Ing. Stanislav Obruča, Ph.D. for the publication entitled "Valorization of spent coffee grounds".

Doctoral student Ing. Katarína Šlosárová received a scholarship to support her research in conjunction with her dissertation in the Brno Ph.D. competition. Talent.

Her thesis deals with thermophilic bacteria capable of producing polyhydroxyalkanoates, which are a suitable alternative to plastics produced from petroleum.

In 2023, the Rector's Prize for a publication with an extraordinary impact on the scientific community was awarded to prof. Ing. Stanislav Obruča, Ph.D. and Ing. Iva Buchtíková, Ph.D.

In 2023, the students of the Institute were awarded the Dean's Prize for outstanding academic achievements in the doctoral programme. Among the awardees were Ing. Jiří Holub, Ing. Kateřina Mrázová, Ing. Pavlína Sniegoňová and Ing. Veronika Řeháková.
