Hydrogels are presently under investigation due to their similarities with the native extracellular matrix (ECM). These unique materials could serve as a suitable platform for studying transport of soluble molecules. As is known, transport properties of the materials are given by their internal structure and could be greatly affected by its rearrangement. Thus the aim of this study is to investigate the influence of the lecithin nanodomains as a structure modifier on the transport properties of hydrogel systems. For this purpose physically and chemically crosslinked hydrogels, containing lecithin and cationic organic dye rhodamin 6G as a diffusion probe, were synthetized. The releasing of model active compound (organic dye) as well as structure modifier (lecithin) were determined via UV-VIS spectroscopy over the time. Based on the obtained data, effective diffusion coefficients and concentrations of the released dye were determined. Finally the limitations and advantages of the chosen hydrogels as a potential material for drug release were defined and discussed.
