This contribution describes a promissing soil conditioner, biochar, and soil characterization and its effect on cultivation of model plant Zea mays. Four different soils and two biochars were studied in long term experiments. Soils and biochars were afterwards characterized by various analytical techniques. Results are summarized and discussed.
