Hydrogels are a very interesting and sought material due to their properties and possible applications in several sectors, namely pharmacy, medicine, agriculture, and many others. For several possible applications, their biocompatibility and biodegradability are essential. The most suitable representatives for these conditions are physically crosslinked hydrogels. Which, they, however, lack especially in terms of mechanical properties. For this reason, such hydrogels are often modified. One possibility of modification is the addition of amphiphilic substances that self-organize inside the hydrogel and modify its properties. Rheology appears to be a suitable method for characterizing mechanical properties, however, measuring and evaluating the results obtained while measuring the hydrogel samples is quite difficult. This work tries to describe various tests on these modified hydrogel materials and their evaluation for appropriate and correct descriptions of hydrogel materials. The basic test that will tell us a lot about hydrogels is the amplitude deformation test, which will provide us with information about the linear viscoelastic region, the cross-over point, and information needed to set up other tests. The next test is the frequency test, which provides us with information to calculate the network density and mesh size. Relaxation tests are very important, i.e. three interval thixotropy and creep tests. They provide us with information about the regeneration of the hydrogels after stress. Together, these tests will help us characterize the hydrogel material and also be able to recognize the differences between modified hydrogels and hydrogels without modifications.
