This study focused on the development of cosmetics products based on microbial extracts. The research also addressed the utilization of food industry waste products, specifically spent coffee grounds, as an alternative substrate for cultivation media. The main objective was the valorisation on this waste materials and the stimultaneous production of biologically active metabolites with potential application in the cosmetic industry, including their analytical characterization. The targeted metabolites included fatty acids, carotenoid pigments, polyphenols and flavonoids. The antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of the obtained extracts were evaluated using model bacteria strains Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Based on the results of these analyses, a suitable type of cosmetics product containing the microbial extracts were selected. The experimental section involved both the cultivation of yeasts and their co-cultivation with microalgae, allowing for the enrichment of the extracts with additional bioactive compounds produced by microalgae. The microbial strains used included yeasts Phaffia rhodozyma CCY 77-1-1, Cystofilobasidium macerans CCY 10-1-2, Rhodosporidium toruloides CCY 62-2-4 and microalgae Chlorella vulgaris CCALA 924. For the preparation of microbial extracts, biomass from the co-cultivation of Phaffia rhodozyma CCY 77-1-1 and Chlorella vulgaris CCALA 924 was used, as well as biomass from their separate monocultures. In the final extract, the biomass were combined in a 1:1 ratio. The final cosmetic product developed was a body scub incorporatind spent coffee grounds. This formulation was chosen with the aim of maximizing the valorisation of the waste substrate- coffee oil was used during microbial cultivation, while the remaining solid fraction of the grounds was added to the scrub. This approach ensured comprehensive utilization of the waste material throughout the process.
