Polymer materials are widely used in the food industry, particularly for disposable food and beverage packaging. The high consumption of such packaging results in landfill accumulation and loss of valuable resources. To reduce environmental impact, polymer waste must be efficiently treated, either by incineration or recycling. Effective recycling depends on accurately identifying the polymer type—better sorting leads to higher-quality recyclates. For food applications, a highly pure recyclate is essential to meet strict food contact regulations. This paper presents a labelling system for polymer food packaging that facilitates sorting and indicates the material's suitability for food contact.
