The development of high-performance fiber-reinforced plastics (FRP) is linked to an effort to improve the properties of reinforcing fibers and polymer matrices. The effort results in special materials such as high-modulus or high-strength fibers of stable mechanical properties and polymers of high thermal or chemical resistance.
