This work deals with the determination of primary oxidation products formed during initial stages of the thermooxidation of hydrocarbon polymers, mainly polyolefins. Five thin polymer films fixed for each run in a special adaptor were oxidized in oven and monitored by FTIR. The data got from infrared spectra were extended by our improved ammonium thiocyanate colorimetric method that is now able to distinguish both hydroperoxides and peracids determination in polymers with a high sensitivity.

This work deals with the determination of primary oxidation products formed during initial stages of the thermooxidation of hydrocarbon polymers, mainly polyolefins.
