The main goal of the TECHBIKOM project is a cross-border cooperation between Austria and the Czech Republic in processing biodegradable polymers and bioactive additives into new materials with advanced innovative nanotechnologies. The innovation is the use of polymers from renewable sources and the incorporation of bioactive components from waste bark directly into the form of polymer (nano)submicron fibers by the "in situ" method using centrifugal spinning. The prepared fibers are characterized both from the chemical-physical point of view and from the point of view of biodegradation and biological activity – cytotoxicity, antibacterial and antiviral properties. The project is in the testing phase, the main output will be nano to sub-microfibrous polymer material containing antibacterial and antiviral components, which can be processed into masks or respirators that are effective, for example, in the prevention of coronavirus in the context of the disease COVID-19.
